Mary & Joe is a new boutique style cannabis delivery service running out of Oakland, CA. The cannabis industry has been around for a long time, however in some cases it is completely new. Oakland has been a pioneer in the cannabis industry pushing to pass such laws as prop 215, and California as a whole has finally followed suit. In 2016 California voters passed Recreational Cannabis Bill Prop 64 making it legal for adult cannabis users to possess and use the plant.
Shortly after Prop 64 was passed, Oakland is once again pioneering the way for the rest of the United States with its fight for reform against the “War on Drugs”. Oakland rolled out the “Equity Program” which at its core value is to give those who have suffered at the hands of the criminal justice system over cannabis and targeted over-policing, a chance to become business owners in this newly established and heavily regulated industry. While the program is still in the beginning stages, it is providing opportunities for its intended audience as well as the general public. Many disenfranchised people as well as general (regular) applicants have taken advantage of the opportunity the city of Oakland is paving the way for.
The city took the opportunity to use its new program in deciding the eight new store front cannabis dispensary permits. Out of the eight given, four of those permits were required to be granted to equity verified applicants. California hopes to follow the trend set by Colorado and see cannabis sales have a positive impact on not just its economy, but also on social justice and lowering crime. Recreational cannabis is expected to keep being legalized throughout the United States.
In this new and exciting time, and with the limited amount of cannabis dispensary storefront permits given out by the city of Oakland adult delivery is the option people interested in establishing a retail business are taking. Mary & Joe was formed by its owners who have had an interest in the cannabis industry long before laws were being discussed to pass a recreational use bill. Keeping in mind the industry in the prop 215 medical marijuana era was all about compassion, wellbeing, health, and the healing properties of the amazing cannabis plant Mary & Joe formed the idea of what the delivery service would be about.
